Since its inception back in 1967, the Castle Museum’s 'Courier' newsletter has served as an artifact of museum exhibits, event information, and historical discussion for fifty-seven years. This year, the 'Courier' received well-deserved recognition with the State History Award in the “Communications: Printed Periodicals” category from the Historical Society of Michigan (HSM).

HSM's awards programs ensure that the people and organizations that preserve and promote Michigan’s rich history receive proper acclaim for their contributions.

According to Katherine Ellison, Castle Museum marketing coordinator, “The Courier is an amazing publication that combines the right amount of historic information, usually on artifacts from our extensive collection, and useful event and exhibit information. It is a joy to read and to put together with Castle Museum staff.”

The Courier is published every two months in color hard copy and digitally. A current copy can be read at castlemuseum.org.

HSM will recognize State History Award winners during the 150th Annual Meeting and Michigan History Conference on September 26-29, 2024, which will take place in St. Joseph/Benton Harbor, Michigan. The Society presents the State History Awards every year to individuals and organizations that have mad outstanding contributions to the appreciation, collection, preservation and/or promotion of state and local history.

The awards are the highest recognition presented by HSM, the state’s official historical society and oldest cultural organization.

The Castle Museum is open seven days a week.   For further questions or information, please contact the Museum at 989-752-2861.
