The Great Lakes Loons (44-47) attempted a ninth inning comeback, but fell short, extending its longest losing streak of the season to eight games with a 5-3 loss to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Milwaukee Brewers) at Dow Diamond tonight.

The Loons had managed just 2 hits and 5-walks throughout the entire game until the bottom of the ninth when Brendon Davis and Oneil Cruz reached base with back to back 1-out walks, before Cristian Santana drove in Davis with an RBI single, and Cruz scored when Mitchell Hansen reached on an infield throwing error to get the Loons to within 3-runs (5-2) of Wisconsin.

Loons Catcher Stevie Berman then walked to load the bases, chasing Wisconsin reliever Miguel Sanchez from the game with one out.

Gavin Lux drove in Santana with an RBI sac fly to get the Loons to within 2-runs (5-3) of the Timber Rattlers and Saige Jenco walked to load the bases, before Cody Thomas popped out to end the game.

Wisconsin starter Josh Pennington (1.29 ERA) relented just 2-hits, while striking out 2-batters through 3-innings, before reliever Carlos Herrera (1-0, 3.38 ERA) completely cooled the Loons' bats, allowing just 4-walks through 4 no-hit and scoreless innings of relief to earn the victory.

Early in the game, the Timber Rattlers picked up right where it had left off the night before, touching Loons starter A.J. Alexy for 4-runs on 2-doubles, a single, and 1-walk to take a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Alexy settled in through the next few innings before he was replaced by Vinny Santarsiero after walking the lead off batter in the top of the fifth inning, but was responsible for the only run in that inning as Wisconsin increased its lead to 5-0 midway through the fifth.

Alexy (2-4, 2.94 ERA) suffered his fourth loss of the season after giving up 5-runs on 4-hits and 4-walks, while striking out 5-batters through 4-innings.

Santarsiero (2.23 ERA) would only allow 1-hit, while striking out 3-batters through 3-innings of relief, while Nolan Long (2.78 ERA) continues to be steady on the back end of the bull pen for the Loons, allowing just 1-walk, while striking out 4-batters as he closed out the final 2-innings.

Santana finished 2 for 3 with 1-RBI, 1-run scored, and 1-walk, while Davis was 1 for 1 with 3-walks and 1-run scored to pace the Loons offense. Cruz scored a run on 1-walk and Jenco reached base twice with two walks as well.

The Loons now welcome the Beloit (WI.) Snappers (Oakland A's) for a 3-game series Sat-Mon at Dow Diamond.
