SASA is a magnet school in the School District of the City of Saginaw and prides itself on providing specialized learning opportunities for students. Classes are structured around seven concentration areas, including Visual Arts. Students in grades 6-12 study in their chosen subject area for two hours daily. By devoting this time to the arts, the concentration offers a unique opportunity for student growth and development in artistic skill, creativity, and critical thinking.
SASA students participate in adjudication at the national, state, and district level and through these opportunities develop outstanding potential for scholarship earnings. SASA is ranked number five in the State of Michigan according U.S. News & World Report.
The Visual Arts Department is dedicated to cultivating a rich and dynamic learning environment that nurtures creativity, technical mastery, and a deep appreciation for the history and context of visual art. Their philosophy centers on the belief that drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, and art history are interconnected disciplines that empower students to explore the world, express their unique perspectives, and engage with diverse cultural narratives.
Art @ the Andersen is sponsored by United Financial Credit Union, with support from the Maxwell K. Pribil Memorial Trust, Jury Foundation, Harvey Randall Wickes Foundation, and the Michigan Arts & Culture Council. Art @ Andersen was established by the Saginaw Arts & Enrichment Commission to give artists in the Great Lakes Bay Region an opportunity to exhibit and sell their work.
