Fall In Michigan Means Football

Game one for the weekend was Central Michigan at Michigan State in front of 73,216 fans on a beautiful evening. The first half saw CMU out play State-even though they we’re down 10-7. Talent took over in the second half & the Spartans ran off 3 straight T.D.’s. In the end MSU out-gained CMU: 279 yards to 96. States Q.B. Noah Kim led the way with 2 T.D.s. Walking back to my parking lot-next to Starbucks was one very long journey. 

Off to Ann Arbor the next morning with 109,480 Wolverine fans wearing yellow. Michigan was without Jim Harbaugh and his Offensive Coordinator, with both suspended for God knows what by the N.C.A.A. It didn’t matter as Michigan ran over East Carolina 30-3. The nice thing here for field photographers - they feed you breakfast & lunch. The 3 stars of the game: Michigan’s QB J.J. McCarthy: 26/30-280 yards-3 T.D.’s;  Roman Wilson (Pass Receiver): 6 Receptions-3 T.D.’s-73 yards. Back in action: Blake Corum: 10 carries-73 yards-one T.D. Michigan’s defense was awesome holding East Carolina to a field goal and 235 yards.  

The top five teams after week one: Georgia, Michigan, Alabama, Florida State, and  Ohio State. New to the top 25: Penn State at #7, Notre Dame at 10, Wisconsin at # 19, Colorado at #22. This team is coached by Deion Sanders who brought in 87 new players to the 1-11 team. His son Shedeur Sanders lit the field up with 510 yards passing. He had 4 TD’S & was 38/47. Four different receivers were over 100 yards each The all-time passing record for a college game is 734 yards by Patrick Mahomes His other son Shilo is a safety.  Tom Brady said after listing to Deion Sanders,  “I’d suit up & run through the wall for that man."

Speaking of Patrick Mahomes, he played the Detroit Lions on September 8th. The only thing this game missed was Al Michaels saying “DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES.” OMG the Lions won 21-20. They are now 11-2 in their last 13 games. Jared Goff was 22/35-253 yards-& 1 T.D. Amon –Ra St.Brown had 6 catches-71 yards & a T.D. This kid is awesome. The Lions had a 4th & one deep in their zone at the start of the game, faked a kick, and ran it for first down (UNREAL). They went on to score. The Lions' Coach Dan Campbell is a hard-nosed Individual & a good one. His team believes in him. Former Michigan player Aidan Hutchinson played like he was possessed (THIS KID IS GREAT). There is a future for this team. Detroit in the Power Ratings is at # 5. They haven’t been this high since the Mackinac Bridge opened in 1957. They were World Champs that year under Bobby Layne & Tobin Rote. Tobin died in a Saginaw Hospital at age 72. 

Week 2: MSU (50,000 Plus Students) 45 Richmond Spiders (3500 Students) 14. M.S.U. QB Noah Kim: 18/22-292 yards-3 TD’S. Nathan Carter; 19 carries-111yards-3 T.D.’S. Head Coach Mel Tucker was fired after the game. He was accused of sexual harassment by a woman who was once raped by 4 men. You would think this dope would have picked a different woman. There goes his $ 95 million dollar contract. We stayed overnight at a new AC One Hotel by Marriot because it was one mile from the stadium. It was great with one awesome breakfast.

Game 2: Michigan 35 UNLV Rebels 7. J.J. McCarthy: 22/25-278 yards-2 TD’S. Blake Corum: 15 carries- 80 yards-3 T.D, S. Roman Wilson had 4 catches for 89 yards & 2 T.D.’S. J.J. had inked the number 47 on his hand to honor his friend. Later he threw an end zone T.D. The pass was exactly 47 yards.  Pro Note: Aaron Rogers is out for the season after fully tearing his left Achilles tendon. Week 3: Washington 41 M.S.U. 7. Washington QB-473 yards/M.S.U. QB 136 yards-Game Over. Michigan 31 Bowling Green 6: Not a good day for J.J. McCarthy: 8 for 13-143 yards/2 TDS/& 3 INT’S. The Wolverines are still at # 2 in the polls - (TOO HIGH).  “Prime Time “Deion Sanders’s team Colorado beat Colorado State 43-35 in double overtime."  

The Detroit Lions game (9-17-2023.  I went with my son and two grandsons):  They lost in overtime. 37-31. STATS: Seattle-555 yards/1 Turnover/33.06 Minutes in possession. The Lions: 520 yards/2 turnovers/262.54 Minutes in possession. They tried four 4th down plays and 3 didn’t work, which cost them 6 points with field goals & possession time (STUPID).

Jared Goff had one ball intercepted - that was after 383 passes. The record is held by Aaron Rogers who had 402 passes before an interception. The Detroit fight song is lame. The mascot is worse. The new 24 cheerleaders are seriously very very cute and way better then Tampa Bucs who have 4 male cheerleaders - THAT’S JUST SO WRONG. Before the game the Barry Sanders' statue was unveiled outside - it is flat out awesome .The next one should be QB Bobby Layne. He won three World Titles (1952-1953 & 1957). I once went out & partied with Bobby Layne’s son - we had a fun night in Tampa. Barry Sanders & Calvin “Megatron” Johnson were introduced to the sellout crowd (65,000). This place was electric  -it sounded like the Joe for the Red Wings when they we’re winning Stanley Cups.
