The Great Lakes Loons won their first extra inning game of 2016 3-2 over the Quad City Bandits tonight at Dow Diamond.   The Loons now have won 2 games in a row after coming off a 6 game losing road trip.   It took 13 innings for the Loons to pull off the victory.   They had their chances in the bottom of the 9th inning by getting a lead off double but failed to even advance the runner.   Then the Loons didn't muster a hit during the extra innings until the bottom of the 13th.

Great Lakes would only have 7 hits on the evening in a game that lasted just over 4 hours. They now will turn around and play an "Educational Day" game starting at 10:35 a.m. on Wednesday.  This will be the last time to face the Bandits in 2016 who managed to pound out 10 hits.   Ariel Sandoval would start the Loons rally in the 13th inning by getting to second base with only one out.   Now it was up to Omar Estevez to be the hero of the game by stroking a gapper in the outfield to score Sandoval to start the celebration.

The Loons now move to 9-14 on the season and will start Victor Gonzales in the final game of the series.   Cedar Rapids will come into the Dow for a quick three game series over the weekend.    Quad City drops to 10-15 and are in last place in the Western Division of the Midwest League.  Brian Bass would pick up the win with 2 innings of solid relief work for Great Lakes.
