Loons brought back down to earth after 10-1 blowout loss to the Dayton Dragons

Cody Thomas hit his 20th HR of the season for the only Loons' offense.....

After winning 8 of its previous 10 games, including winning 2 of its last 3 against the Lansing Lugnuts (Toronto Blue Jays), the Great Lakes Loons were smoked by the Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds) 10-1 at Dow Diamond tonight. 
 
Loons starter Chris Matthewson relented 2-walks and 3-singles in the top of the fifth inning, allowing 5-runs to score as Dayton grabbed a 5-0 lead midway through five. 
 
The Loons answered with 1-run in the bottom half of the inning when DH Cody Thomas (20) led off with his twentieth home run of the season, a solo shot over the right field wall to make it a 5-1 game after five innngs. 
 
Matthewson gave up a single and a walk to his first two batters in the top of the sixth, before he was replaced by Loons reliever Ryan Moseley as one of those runners managed to score 1-run, giving Dayton a 6-1 lead through six.
 
The former Long Beach State University Dirtbag, Matthewson (5-4, 3.11 ERA) suffered his fifth loss of the season after giving up 5-earned runs (1-unearned) on 6-hits and 3-walks, with 4-strikeouts through 5-innings. 
 
The Dragons plated another 2-runs on Moseley in the top of the seventh to extend its lead to 8-1 midway through 7-innings.
 
Moseley (5.45 ERA) lasted through the eighth after giving up 2-runs on 3-hits and 2-walks with 2-strikeouts through 3-innings.
 
Loons closer Aneurys Zabala gave up the final 2-runs for a 10-1 Dayton lead on 3-hits and 1-walk, with 1-strikeout, replacing Moseley in the ninth inning for the Loons. 
 
Thomas was 1 for 4 with HR No. 20, while five other Loons batters added 1-hit each respectively tonight. 
 
The Loons will look to get back on track tomorrow night (7:05 pm) against the Dragons for game-2 of this 4-game home series at Dow Diamond.
