The Great Lakes Loons opened the 2nd half of the Midwest League with a 2-1 loss to the Fort Wayne Tincaps at Dow Diamond.   After finishing the 1st half of the season on a strong note to qualify for the Midwest League playoffs at the end of the regular season the Loons couldn't generate any offense.

The Tincaps opened the scoring in the first inning with a home run from Michael Gettys.  That would be the only scoring in front of a good sized crowd of just over 4,000 fans at the Dow Diamond until the bottom of the ninth inning.  The Loons got on the board in the 9th inning on an RBI single from Alex Santana to knot the game at 1-1.   The score would remain deadlocked until the Tincaps scored 3 runs in the top of the 13th inning.   The Loons didn't score in the bottom of the 13th to end up on short end of the 4-1 loss.

Cristian Gomez and Brian Wolfe paced the Loons with 2 hits in the long game Thursday night.   Bubby Rosman the Loons reliever who has looked very sharp on the season took the loss in the strange 13th inning were the Tincaps put the game away.  They now stand at 0-1 in the 2nd half.   The Loons returned 3 players who competed in the Midwest League All-Star Game that was played in Peoria, Illinois on Tuesday with the East Division winning the game 5-0.   Grant Holmes pitched well in his All-Star appearance.    The Loons will face the Tincaps for 3 more games this weekend.
