The University of Michigan continued the impressive start to the 2016 NCAA football season with a 41-8 win over the University of Illinois on Saturday at the Big House.   The number 3 ranked team in America raced out to 31-0 lead in the first half against the Illinois squad.   In front of 111,103 fans at the Big House the Wolverines were dominant in every area of the game on this sunny afternoon.   The Homecoming game saw junior quarterback Wilton Speight get better with every series and now becoming a legitimate quarterback for the Wolverines.

Speight who would finish with 16 for 23 passing and 253 yards along with 2 touchdown passes.   He would use 11 different receivers on the afternoon.   It turned windy in the Big House as the sun started to go down making it even more impressive on Speight's afternoon.

The Wolverines would have 14 different players rush the ball on the day with De'Von Smith carrying the ball 18 times for  76 yards.   Sophomore Karan Higdon would carry the ball 8 times and end up with 106 yards.    The Wolverines completely dominated the game with over 560 yards offense and the time of possession was over 41 minutes for Michigan.

The day or should I say evening got more interesting as #2 Ohio State was upset in Happy Valley by Penn State 24-21 knocking the Buckeyes from the unbeaten ranks.   This will more the Wolverines up to #2 when the polls come out Sunday night with Alabama still retaining the #1 spot in the rankings.   Now going down the drain was the highly anticipated match-up that I had envisioned for November 26th in Columbus with two 11-0 teams facing each other.    If Michigan holds out for the rest of the season and defeats the Buckeyes in Columbus a Big Ten title match-up with the Nebraska Corn huskers looms down the road.

Next on the schedule is a little game on Saturday October 29th in East Lansing against the Michigan State Spartans.   The game is going to be fresh on the minds of every Wolverine after last year's unbelievable finish in Ann Arbor.   I'm sure that Coach Jim Harbaugh will have his troops prepared for the 12:00 kick-off at Spartan Stadium.    This is the game that has been on the calendar for the entire year.  I'm sure that the Wolverines would love to pay back the Spartans who are struggling big time this year with a 2-5 record.   It promises to be an interesting game on Saturday.
