The Saginaw Sting capped off one of the greatest comeback wins in CIFL history with a 66-63 victory over the Dayton Dragons. The semi-final game of the CIFL Playoffs pitted the Sting against their former quarterback Tommy Jones who had lead them to the previous two Indoor League Football Championships. Playing in front of a small crowd at the Dow Event Center the Sting fell behind at halftime 28-14 to the Sharks but played an inspired 2nd half of football.
A.J. McKenna finished the game 19 of 26 passing for 294 yards on the evening with 7 touchdown passes and ran in another score himself. The Sting now move to 9-2 and await the winner of the Erie vs. Kentucky game. If Kentucky would win against Erie the Sting would again host the CIFL Championship game at the Dow. Either way the Sting are right where they belong back in the title game.
The Erie Explosion defeated the Kentucky Extreme 55 - 6 on Sunday afternoon to advance and host the CIFL Championship game next weekend in Erie, PA. This will be the third straight Championship game that the Saginaw Sting have appeared in. I was disappointed in the crowd at the Dow for the semi-final game with about 600 fans there. With agreeing to host the game on short notice it did affect the attendance.
