Spirit best defending memorial cup champs 4-3 at Dow tonight

The Saginaw Spirit beat the defending memorial cup champion Oshawa Generals 4-3 in front of 4,108 fans at the Dow Event Center tonight.

The Spirit scored two late power play goals en route to their sixth win in their last eight games.

Oshawa defenseman Daniel Robertson was sent to the box for a tripping penalty at 14:02 of the second period. Saginaw forward Devon Paliani tied the game just fourteen seconds later at 14:16 of the second period.

Oshawa defenseman Jalen Smereck was then whistled for a tripping penalty at 16:11 of the third period, opening the door for some late game heroics.

Saginaw veteran forward Matthew kreis banged home the game winning power play goal at 17:08 of the final period for the 4-3 Spirit win.

The Spirit will travel to Sarnia to play the Sting tomorrow evening for a 7:05 p.m. game.
