Saginaw Spirit GM Dave Drinkill announced today that the team  has signed 2016 second round draft pick Maxim Grondin to an OHL standard player agreement.

“We are pleased to come to an agreement with Max, and are looking forward to getting his career started here in Saginaw,” Drinkill said “Grondin is a player that contiually got better as the season went on and his skill set really started to show. His mix of size, ability, and style of play is something that is needed in our lineup.”

Grondin is the third player to sign with the team this year, along with 2015 draft pick Gianluca Fuoco and 2016 third round pick Damien Giroux.

The 6-foot-3 194 pound native of Hearst, ON comes to Saginaw from the much heralded Vaughn Kings AAA Minor Midget program in the GTHL where he led the team in assists (30) and points (50) while banging home (20) goals during the 2015-16 season.

The Vaughn Kings have produced some of the top talent in the OHL including former Saginaw Spirit and current Detroit Red Wings prospect Dylan Sadowy.

Grondin will be participating in the Under-17 World Hockey Challenge Hockey Development Camp from July, 26 thru Aug, 2 in Calgary, Alberta this summer.

The Spirit are still awaiting a commitment from their first round pick in the 2016 OHL priority selection draft, Blade Jenkins. A commitment from Jenkins would go a long way in solidifying the already bright future of this young Spirit team.
