The 2017 Saginaw Spirit Prospect Camp featured shining stars as well as some surprises after one day

Team Blue took the first game 7-4 while the two teams skated to an 8-8 tie in game two at Saginaw Bay Ice Arena on Saturday.....

The Saginaw Spirit completed the first day of the 2017 prospects camp with two scrimmages (10 am & 6 pm) at Saginaw Bay Ice Arena in Saginaw Township Saturday. 
 
In the (10 am) morning session, team blue skated to a 7-4 victory over team white, before the two teams skated to an 8-8 tie in the (6 pm) evening scrimmage. 
 
Four players finished tied for the scoring lead with 5-points each respectively throughout the two scrimmages. 
 
Max Grondin, a second round pick, 37 overall, in the 2016 OHL priority selection draft (who was a big rookie contribution throughout the 2016-17 Spirit season) along with recently signed 2016 No. 1 pick Blade Jenkins set the tone with 5-points each Saturday, pacing team blue with 2-goals and 3-assists apiece respectively.
 
Making some noise for team blue was 2017 third round pick, 41 overall, Ryan Stepien, who led all goal scorers with 4-goals and an assist, giving team blue 3 different players with 5-points today. 
 
Camaryn Baber, another third round pick, 57 overall, in the 2017 OHL priority selection draft added two goals for team blue as well. 
 
Defensive prospect's Mason Millman, a seventh round pick, 124 overall, in the 2017 under-17 OHL priority selection draft, and Brandon Atkins, a fourth round pick in the inaugural 18-under OHL priority selection draft this year, led team blue defensemen with 4-points (4-assists, Millman) and 3-points (1-goal, 2-assists, Atkins) respectively. 
 
Saginaw's 2016-17 top rookie Damien Giroux, who had 25-points (8-goals, 17-assists) during his rookie campaign, had a goal and 2-assists for team white today. 
 
Team white was led by Mitch Morrison, a fifth round pick, 86 overall, in the 2016 OHL priority selection draft, who made the coaches take notice after scoring 1-goal and adding another 4-assists to pace team white with 5-points today. 
 
Nicholas Porco, the 2017 No. 1 Spirit draft pick, showcased his ability to light the red lamp by scoring 3-goals and 1-assist (4-points) playing for team white. 
 
Saginaw's inaugural pick in the 2017 OHL under-18 priority selection draft, 6-foot-1, 200-pound forward Nate Boomhower also had a 4-point day, matching Porco with 3-goals and 1-assist for team white.
 
Team white's surprise performance came from Stephane Crevier, a tenth round pick, 188 overall, in the 2017 OHL priority selection draft, who became the third player from team white with 4-points today, scoring 1-goal and 3-assists. 
 
Mississauga native Joe Kennedy, a fourth round pick, 64 overall, in the 2017 OHL priority selection draft, led the team white defensemen with 2-points (1-goal, 1-assist). 
 
Cyrus Martin, an eighth round pick, 144 overall, in the 2017 OHL priority selection draft and Tyler Masternak, an eleventh round pick, 206 overall, in the 2016 OHL priority selection draft split duties in goal for team blue; while Carter Tahk, a fourteenth round pick in the 2017 OHL priority selection draft and Cameron Lamour, a third round pick, 53 overall, in the 2016 OHL priority selection draft split duties in goal for team white. 
 
The two teams will wrap up camp with a 10 am scrimmage at Saginaw Bay Ice Arena Sunday morning.
