TOLEDO, OHIO -  The Detroit Tigers AAA affiliate the Toledo Mudhens split a pair of games with the Durham Bulls at Fifth Third Field in Toledo, Ohio.  The Mudhens the highest classification of Minor League Baseball supplies players to the Detroit Tigers.  Most of these players are one step away from playing in the Majors.   The Mudhens played two games with the Durham Bulls (Tampa Bay Rays affiliate) within 16 hours on Tuesday evening and a 10:35 a.m. "Educational Day Game" this morning.

In triple AAA baseball their is a lot of movement between the team and the parent club.  This is the case with the Mudhens this season early on in 2016.   The last place Mudhens in the International League Western Division would play a fine game on Tuesday evening in defeating the Bulls 5-0.  Starting pitcher Chad Bell would pick up the win after 5 innings worked and allowed the Bulls to 4 hits on the night.  Toledo was paced at the plate by Dixon Machado and Chad Huffman with 2 hits each.  The Mudhens kept increasing their lead all evening for the 5,000 plus fans in attendance in the beautiful downtown ballpark.

What is interesting for the average fan of baseball that they can see MLB players come to Toledo to either rehab or get their game back in order.  These two games would allow this writer to see Anthony Gose continue to struggle and pitcher Shane Greene look like his game is coming back on the mound.  Greene pitched into the fourth inning and was on a pitch count in allowing no runs with 7 strikeouts.  Anthony Gose was clearly frustrated with his 0 for 8 and 4 strikeouts during these two games.

The Wednesday morning "Educational Day Game" which sees about 6,500 school age children attending the game in which the Mudhens dropped 5-3 to the Bulls.  Durham's starting pitcher Justin Marks would pick up the win while the Bulls banged out 11 hits.  Toledo on the other hand would have 9 hits with two players picking up 7 of those hits.   Chad Huffman would have 4 hits on the day while Casey McGehee would follow with 3 knocks.  Starting pitcher Shane Greene would finish with 3 1/3 innings worked with 7 strikeouts in front of the 9,500 plus fans.

Toledo now drops to 19-25 on the season while the Durham Bulls moved to 19-28 in 2016.   The ballpark in downtown Toledo is a great way to see a ballgame up close and now cost an arm and leg.  The downtown area has really come back in the 15 years that they have been downtown.
