The Valley Lutheran (1-0) boys basketball team held Nouvel CC (0-2) scoreless in the third quarter, while leaning on junior point guard Andrew Gunn and junior forward Jonathon Giglio for some offense, cruising to a 52-30 victory over the Panthers inside the Valley Lutheran gym tonight.

Nouvel seemed off to a good start when junior guard Michael Ehlman opened the game with an acrobatic layup, drawing a foul then making the free throw for an early 3-0 lead, before six different Panther players would go on to fill up the scoring column early, as the two teams ended the first quarter in a 13-13 tie.

After scoring 4-points in the opening quarter, Gunn added a layup and a 3-pointer in the second quarter for the Chargers, finishing with 9 first-half points, as Valley Lutheran pulled out to a 27-22 halftime lead.

The Charger defense put a stranglehold on the Panthers, holding NCC to a third quarter goose-egg, while adding another 14-points (4 from Gunn) to build a 40-22 lead after three quarters of play.

Gunn (4-points) and Giglio (8-points) scored all 12 of Valley Lutheran's fourth quarter points, while Nouvel showed signs of life in the fourth quarter, getting 4-points from senior Peter Snyder, 2-points from junior T.J. Raedy, and 2-points from senior Justin Kuligowski, however, it would not be enough to make up for not scoring in the third quarter.

Gunn led Valley Lutheran (and all scorers) with 18-points, while Giglio added 16-points for the Chargers who were followed by senior Luke Bushey with 7-points, and junior Brady Hagenow with 5-points, while Drew Greenwood, Riley Ringley, and Bryce Howard chipped in with 2-points apiece respectively.

Snyder led the Panthers with 6-points, while senior Tate Hausbeck and Raedy each followed with 5-points apiece respectively. NCC junior Josh Kuligowski added 4-points and his older brother Justin had 3-points, as Ehlman and junior Jacob Burr rounded out the Panther scoring with 3-points apiece respectively.

Nouvel, who is set to join Valley Lutheran in the TVC west at the beginning of the 2018-19 school year, will look for its first win of the season next week when it hosts Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest H.S. for a 7 pm tip-off inside the Nouvel gym on Wed. night, while Valley Lutheran travels to Pinconning for a 7 pm TVC west match-up inside the Pinconning H.S. gym on Wed. evening as well.
