Hodgson was signed to an amateur tryout (ATO) contract with the Cleveland Monsters (Columbus Blue Jackets) while Hronek joins the Grand Rapids Griffins (Detroit Red Wings) for the remainder of the AHL season.....

Earlier this afternoon, defending Calder Cup champions, the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League announced (on the teams official website) the signings of Spirit overage forward Hayden Hodgson along with Boston College defenseman Scott Savage to amateur tryout (ATO) free agent contracts for the remainder of the 2016-17 AHL season.

The Spirit never gave up on the season despite not qualifying for the playoffs....

The Saginaw Spirit (27-32-7-2) did not qualify for the 2017 post season, however, you would not have thought that was the case following a 4-3 loss to the Windsor Spitfires in its final regular season game when an incredible 5,848 (standing room only) fans showed up to support the Spirit at the Dow Event Center tonight.

Backup goal tender Brendan Bonello took a shutout late into the third period before the Greyhounds scored three goals in the last five minutes.....

After beating the Soo Greyhounds 2-1 Wednesday night at the Dow Event Center, the Saginaw Spirit dropped the second game of a home-and-home 3-1 at the Essar Centre in the Soo tonight.

The Spirit need to win its final three games and hope for Sarnia to lose its last 2 games to get into a 'play in' game for the final western conference playoff spot and keep the playoff streak alive.....

Despite the rocky start to the 2016-17 Ontario Hockey League season, the Saginaw Spirit still have an outside chance to keep its eleven year playoff streak alive by winning its final three regular season games, however, they will also need some help from the Windsor Spitfires and the Guelph Storm, who play the Sarnia Sting in its final two regular season games.

The Saginaw Spirit scored twice in the third period to erase a 1-goal deficit and win its fourth straight game, skating to a 3-2 victory over the Guelph Storm in front of 3,393 fans at the Sleeman Centre in Guelph, ON tonight.

Kris Bennett tied the game late in the third period to force OT where Spirit goal tender Evan Cormier made some key saves keeping the playoff hopes within the teams grasp.....

Kris Bennett (24) scored to tie the game at 4-goals apiece with just under 4 minutes left in regulation to force overtime, which led to a Saginaw Spirit 5-4 shootout victory over the Flint Firebirds at the Dort Federal Event Center Wed. night.
