With tonight's win, the Spirit have now won the first five of eight meetings with Flint this season.....

The Americans forced OT then scored the only 2 shootout goals, fighting off blizzard conditions all afternoon in front of over 44,000 fans in Buffalo this afternoon....

On the heels of an unexpected upset loss (3-2) to Slovakia yesterday, team USA battled back from a 3-1 deficit in the third period to tie the game at 3-goals apiece and force overtime, then scored the only two shootout goals to take a 4-3 shootout victory over team Canada in front of 44,592 fans who braved blizzard conditions at the 2018 International Ice Hockey Federation U20 World Junior Championships at New Era Field in Orchard Park, NY outside of Buffalo this afternoon.

the Spirit held the Greyhounds, who are currently ranked No. 1 in the entire 60 team CHL, to just 24 shots, but ran into a red hot Soo goal tender...

The Saginaw Spirit (17-13-3-0) played a great defensive hockey game, limiting the No. 1 ranked team in the entire (60-team) Canadian Hockey League to just 24-shots, but a couple bad breaks late in the second period and early in the third, combined with facing an extremely hot goal tender, led to a 4-1 loss to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds (30-3-2-0) who extended its streak to 21 consecutive wins in front of 3,619 faithful Spirit fans at the Dow Event Center tonight.

First period penalties had Heritage down 4-0 early in the second period, but the Hawks scored four goals in the second period to erase a 4 goal deficit, before Hartland added another two goals for the win.....

The Saginaw Heritage (5-1-1) boys ice hockey team (after a pre-game ceremony honoring former Hawks coach Gene Ayotte, who rececntly passed away following a short illness) battled back from a 4-goal deficit to tie the game at 4-goals apiece in the second period, after three first period penalties had the Hawks trailing 4-0 early in the second, however, the No. 2 ranked (Div-2) Hartland Eagles (7-2) scored early in the third period, before taking advantage of another Heritage penalty while skating 4 on 4 late in the third to take a 6-4 decision over Heritage at Saginaw Bay Ice Arena tonight.

With most players heading home to spend Christmas with family, the young Spirit team may have not had their heads completely in the game against their western conference rivals....

With most players preparing to head home to their respective families for Christmas break following tonight's game, the Saginaw Spirit (17-12-3-0) may have been caught thinking a bit too far ahead, coming out quite flat in the early going, surrendering 3-goals in the first thirteen-and-a-half minutes, before eventually falling 5-1 to the Windsor Spitfires (18-11-2-1) at The Dow Event Center tonight.
