I need to admit at the outset that there is bias in this article.  I have a little bit of a mutual admiration society with Bemo's owners Rob & Luann Ervin.   When Vox Politic first began to run in the Review a couple years ago, the very first person to stop me and discuss a piece at length was Rob Ervin.

We always knew this area had talent; who knew we had so much twang.  The last several years have seen an explosion in the popularity of Country music and that has been mirrored in the number and quality of entertainers who are involved in the genre in this area.

This has always been the land of dreamers.  Whether indigenous people who fashioned the first dream catchers or the European pilgrims who crossed the Atlantic in search of the freshest of starts, there is story after story about our ancestors and their quest to make the products of their imagination real.

Let's face it, television news is largely unwatchable.   This isn't a sudden situation, but something that has evolved over time.  Gone are the days when you chose one of three flavors, all of them substantial.

Someone once said that the best way to help yourself if to help others first.  It is that ethic that seems to permeate the premises of INDIE SPoT Studios, a new player that is offering creative services and management to those engaged in the arena of independent and original music.

I believe in science.  Actually, I believe in scientists.  It's just an approach.  For instance, Isaac Newton was clearly a bright dude.  Check out his Wikipedia bio.  The guy had some serious hobbies.

I've met Bay City attorney Ed Czuprynski a couple times, but I can't really say I know the guy.  Now, I know a little of his legend and history, as he set some definitive legal precedent in the United States Supreme Court representing his own interests as a young attorney.

While I will admit that I am not much of a film buff, I have a soft spot for the old Westerns and Civil War period pieces.  There's nothing like gathering a posse to right a wrong or settle a score.

Some truths are eternal.  Any pub owner can tell you that nothing will pack people into their establishments faster than a sign out front saying “25 Cent Beer.”  These days, you are seeing that sign a lot.

There aren't many days more exciting than the first day on the job.  It's often a fresh start or a step forward or a welcome bit of economic relief.  You'll probably get up in advance of your alarm and dress to impress in a crisp new outfit, be it a brand new uniform or a smart looking skirt.

“There was an old woman, who lived in a shoe; She had so many children; she didn’t know what to do” Through work, play, politics and pure chance, I get the opportunity to meet a wide variety of people.

I think it was Mike Tyson that said “Everyone has a plan until they take a punch.” Unfortunately, I’ve tested this saying myself a few times over the years. Whether it was bad judgment, bad luck or just a little kick of karma, I’ve had to get back up off the canvas enough times now that I consider myself as kind of an expert in how to recover from failure.

This might be hard for some people to believe, but I used to be able to dunk a basketball.  Even though it turned out to be something I could do pretty easily, I'll never forget the first time.

Bay City has taken a couple of turns as a Boomtown.  Its first peak was early; with the manors on Center Avenue still representing an era when lumber was king.  Less stately reminders of the City's more recent industrial heyday as a center for manufacturing dot the cityscape, many a shell of their former selves, if they are operating at all.
