Robert E. Martin is co-founder, Editor, & Publisher of Review Magazine, an independent publication of news, the arts, and culture, which was established in 1979. He graduated from Albion College & the University of Sussex, in Brighton England, and has also contributed to many statewide and national publications.

With over 6004 votes cast for all categories & divisions and 948 musicians throughout the region nominated, during the first weekend of the final voting round we had another 1,000 votes cast; so it is safe to say that with our newly instituted tabulation script designed to protect against voter fraud, coupled with the level of registration and interest, this year’s ceremony will be the most accurate and fairest assessment from the voting public that we have yet presented.

The state of our union took a severe blow last month with the repeal of Dodd-Frank provisions by Congress that were designed to prohibit the excesses of Wall Street speculation that put taxpayers on the hook for the mortgage-loan crisis of 2006, which our economy is still hobbled from; but this is nothing compared to the severe blow that the United States Supreme Court leveled to the constitutional rights of citizens in late December.

As of January 1st – at the kick-off of this brand spanking New Year – a new baby was born. Residents in Saginaw County, along with all of the other 34 member communities serviced by the Mid Michigan Waste Authority – now have a new NO-SORT Recycling Curbside Program in place that is revolutionary on many levels and designed to take our region into the new millennium with a program that supporters predict will reduce landfill space and increase recycling streams by 40% throughout the region.
