Disney's NEWSIES

Posted in: Theatre

Disney’s Newsies, based on the 1992 motion picture film, features a score by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken and Jack Feldman, along with a book by four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein. Inspired by the real-life Newsboy Strike of 1899, where newsboy Kid Blink led a band of orphaned and runaway "newsies" in a two-week-long battle against powerful newspaper publishers like Pulitzer and Hearst. This timely and fresh show addresses age-old themes of social injustice, exploitative labor practices, and the David-versus-Goliath struggles as the young learn to harness their power against a corrupt establishment. The high-energy stage musical is full of thrilling dance numbers and introduces eight brand-new songs by the original team of Menken and Feldman, while retaining beloved classics from the film, including “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” “King of New York,” and “Santa Fe.” Join us for non-stop thrills in this captivating musical performed by teenage Rising Stars from the Great Lakes Bay region!
