Northwood University students and possibly others will play basketball while using wheelchairs in a fundraising event for Special Olympics from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Jan. 30 at Northwood's Bennett Sports Center in Midland. The public is invited to attend for a free-will donation of a dollar or more per person. The event benefits the Special Olympics organization serving people with intellectual disabilities in Midland County. Circle K International ā€" a service club at Northwood ā€" will host the event. Concessions will be available. Among the expected players are Circle K members and others from Northwood. Four-person teams may participate for a registration fee of $5 per team member. To ask about registering a team, interested people may send e-mail to godleyk@northwood.edu. In previous years, competitors have included fraternities, sororities and student organization executive boards.
