Doing Something About the Weather

A World Getting Hotter Hotter than hell used to be hyperbole!  This summer has seen triple digit heat all over the U.S.; weird warming and weirder freezing conditions leaving crops destroyed; severe storms isolating thousands without electricity; droughts resulting in massive forest fires, and to date 46 heat related deaths.

Dirt Fest is an annual outdoor music festival held in the heart of Mid-Michigan at the Birch Run Expo Center that is now in its 15th year. Taking place on Saturday, August 11th the festival has evolved into a unique event celebrating the collaboration of many divergent styles of music ranging from Metal, Punk, Alternative, Emo, Hip-Hop, Hardcore, Grind, Indie and Pop, which this year will be presented on five outdoor stages, with two of the stages dedicated to national acts that feature such groups as Clutch, My Darkest Days, and the recently reunited Chiodos with Greg Owens.

The Frankenmuth Area Fine Arts Council is hosting its annual 'Art on Main' art show on Saturday & Sunday, August 11th & 12th at Zehnder Park on Main Street, right next to Zehnder's restaurant from 10 AM - 7 PM o Saturday and 10 AM - 4 PM on Sunday.

“Did universal charity prevail, earth would be a heaven, and hell a fable.” Charles Caleb Colton   Some ideas have a knack for catching on.  And since its inception 20 years ago, the Labadie Pig Gig has grown to become one of the most successful summer events in Michigan, drawing professional rib competitors from Michigan, Ohio, Carolina, and as far across the world as Australia together, along with some of the biggest names in musical entertainment, while managing to raise approximately $960,000 for local charities in the process.
