London, ON:

The Saginaw Spirit (5-8-2-0) dug itself out of last place after Brady Gilmour's overtime goal lifted the Spirit to a 6-5 OT victory over the London Knights in front of 9,036 fans at Budweiser Gardens in London, ON tonight.

London's Cliff Pu tied the game at 5-goals apiece on a power play goal at 17:45 of the third period, forcing overtime, where Gilmour (4) buried the game winner for his fourth goal of the season with assists coming from Spirit newcomer Mason Kohn and Keaton Middleton just 17-seconds into the overtime session.

The Spirit had jumped out to a late first period lead when Cole Coskey (8) scored his eighth of the season from Daniil Vertiy and Marcus Crawford for a 1-0 lead at 14:58 of the opening period.

Newcomer Kohn (2) wasted little time getting his first goal in a Spirit sweater, scoring his second goal of the season from Hayden Davis and Kyle Bollers at 18:36 of the first period, as the Spirit skated into the first intermission with a 2-0 lead.

London got on the board midway through the second period when Robert Thomas (10) scored his tenth goal of the season to make it a 2-1 game at 7:40 of the second period.

Shortly after the Thomas goal, Spirit second year forward Danny Katic (1) scored his first career OHL goal from Caleb Everett and Coskey to extend the Spirit lead to 3-1 at 11:35 of the second period.

Blade Jenkins (4) scored his fourth goal of the season to give the Spirit a 5-4 lead at 11:05 of the third period prior to overtime.

Spirit goal tender Evan Cormier (a fourth round pick of the New Jersey Devils in the 2016 NHL draft) turned away 31 of the 36 shots he would face in net for the Spirit tonight.

Saginaw will return home for a 7:05 face off against the North Bay Battalion (6-8-2-0) at the Dow Event Center tomorrow night.
